A 24 August 2026 evidence file preserves a WhatsApp screenshot in which an institutional-sounding announcement, an invitation to another group and multiple media links are circulated together. The direct observation is a bundled distribution event.

The screenshot does not directly establish source independence or dependence. It cannot tell a reader whether ten links represent ten independently reported stories, whether some outlets copied others, whether a single source briefed several publishers, or whether the links were merely collected after publication. Those are testable questions, but they require different evidence.

For source-independence analysis, journalists can compare publication and revision timestamps, distinctive phrasing, image reuse, CMS user logs, editorial correspondence and account-administration relationships. For attribution, group-administrator records, first-send metadata and authenticated account access become relevant. Without such records, phrases such as “coordinated campaign” should remain qualified hypotheses rather than factual conclusions.

The institutional side of the evidence also demonstrates the importance of primary-source hierarchy. The file cites a 24 August institutional response stating that the relevant media or third parties had not been authorised to communicate with students or graduates on behalf of the university; that no new Rector/Vice Rector structure for Türkiye and the Turkic States had been authorised by the Board; that no press conference for the period described was planned; and that no Board decision had ended Prof. Dr. Bilal Semih Bozdemir’s status as Dean — Türkiye.

Those records are directly relevant to statements that present themselves as institutional. They do not, however, prove the identity or intent of whoever circulated the WhatsApp message. Good evidence practice therefore avoids using one category of proof to answer a different category of question.

The same discipline protects both criticism and defence. Journalists may ask hard questions about credentials, authority and governance. They should not turn unresolved criminal allegations into settled facts. Likewise, a right-of-reply response for Prof. Dr. Bilal Semih Bozdemir should rely on verifiable records rather than counter-accusations, private exposure or speculative claims about opponents.

The broader lesson is methodological: screenshots document appearances; metadata helps establish sequence; logs help establish control; primary institutional records help establish authority. Treating these evidence types as interchangeable weakens reporting. Keeping them distinct strengthens it.

Editorial transparency: This article is part of a disclosed verification/right-of-reply project across PressGrup-affiliated publications that share the same evidence base.
